National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT),(erstwhile  DOEACC Society), an Autonomous Scientific Society under the administrative control of Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, was set up to carry out Human Resource Development and related activities in the area of Information, Electronics & Communications Technology (IECT). NIELIT is engaged both in Formal & Non-Formal Education in the area of IECT besides development of industry oriented quality education and training programmes in the state-of-the-art areas. NIELIT has endeavoured to establish standards to be the country’s premier institution for Examination and Certification in the field of IECT. It is also one of the National Examination Body, which accredits institutes/organizations for conducting courses in IT in the non-formal sector.

At present, NIELIT has thirty one(31) offices located at Agartala, Aizawl, Ajmer, Aurangabad, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Chuchuyimlang, Churachandpur, Delhi, Gangtok, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Jorhat, Kohima, Kolkata, Kokrajhar, Leh, Lucknow, Lunglei, Patna, Ranchi, Senapati, Shillong, Shimla, Silchar, Srinagar, Tezpur with its Head quarters at New Delhi. It is also well networked throughout India with the presence of about 900+ institutes accredited by it.

Over the last two decades, NIELIT has acquired very good expertise in IT training, through its wide repertoire of causes, ranging from ‘O’ Level (Foundation), ‘A’ Level (Advance Diploma), ‘B’ Level (MCA equivalent), ‘C’ Level (M-Tech level), IT literacy courses such as CCC (Course on Computer Concept), BCC (Basic Computer Course) and other such long term and short term course in the non formal sector like courses on  Information  Security, ITeS-BPO(Customer Care/Banking), Computer Hardware Maintenance (CHM-O/A level), Bio-Informatics(BI-O/A/B level), ESDM etc, besides, high end courses  offered by NIELIT Centres at Post-Graduate level (M.Tech) in Electronics Design & Technology, Embedded Systems etc. which are not normally offered by Universities/Institutions in the formal sector, in association with the respective state Universities.

The basket of activities of NIELIT is further augmented by the wide range of projects that it undertakes. NIELIT has demonstrated its capability and capacity to undertake R&D projects, consultancy services, turnkey projects in office automation, software development, website development etc. NIELIT is also the nodal implementing agency on behalf of DeitY for Data Digitization of the population of 15 assigned States and 2 Union Territories for the creation of National Population Register (NPR) project of Registrar General of India (RGI). NIELIT is also successfully executing the Agriculture Census and Input Survey project under which tabulation of about 10 crore data records have to be done.

NIELIT has planned a road map for adopting appropriate pedagogy for metamorphosing NIELIT into an Institute of National Importance.

NIELIT  is implementing a joint scheme of All India Council for Technical Education and Department of Information Technology (formerly Department of Electronics (DOE)), Government of India. The objective of the Scheme is to develop quality manpower in IT by utilizing the expertise available with the computer training institutes who are granted accreditation for conducting specified Levels of courses, subject to their meeting well-defined norms and criteria.

Services

Information Technology

Information products and services have become increasingly a major component of our lives thus necessitating the need to enhance competencies in every sphere of Information Technology. In the brave new world a widespread access to information, communications and resources is the only solution to remove the insurmountable barriers to education, democratization process and overall economic growth. The primary objectives of the Research and Development programmes supported by NIELIT is thus to facilitate proliferation and absorption of emerging technologies in the IT sector, facilitate capacity building, creating the right infrastructure and making the existing technologies, affordable to the citizens of the country. This is the only way to take lead in the global knowledge economy. NIELIT supports Research and Development and coordinates the technical activities of the respective Scientific Societies.

Electronics

The Electronics sector is a key player in the economy and one of the most globalised industries in the world. It is a strategic enabler and a driving force for all the services, be it Internet, telecom, precision engineering industries, aviation, energy, banking imagine any service, nothing works without Electronics. The rapidly growing Indian electronics industry can be broadly categorised into six segments. They are consumer Electronics (the largest chunk of the market), industrial Electronics, strategic Electronics, Computers, Communication and Broadcasting equipment and Electronic components.
A key focus in the Electronics sector is R&D leading to innovative products. NIELIT has long acknowledged R&D as an integral part of Electronics ecosystem and is supporting the entire value chain of R&D activities in the country ranging from the basic components to sophisticated product development.
As a roadmap for developing, strengthening and enhancing the competitiveness of the Indian Electronics sector NIELIT has constituted a group-R&D in Electronics Group to conduct sponsored R&D activities across India at various academic institutions of higher learning and R&D laboratories, in the areas assigned to it through a variety of plan programmes. The sophisticated projects assigned to the groups cover a wide spectrum of key technological areas. These include developments in Nanotechnology, Medical Electronics, Microelectronics, Industrial Electronics et al.

http://www.nielit.gov.in/bullet.jpg e - Governance

Over the years, a large number of initiatives have been undertaken by various State Governments and Central Ministries to usher in an era of e-Government. Sustained efforts have been made at multiple levels to improve the delivery of public services and simplify the process of accessing them.
e-Governance in India has steadily evolved from computerization of Government Departments to initiatives that encapsulate the finer points of Governance, such as citizen centricity, service orientation and transparency. Lessons from previous e-Governance initiatives have played an important role in shaping the progressive e-Governance strategy of the country. Due cognizance has been taken of the notion that to speed up e-Governance implementation across the various arms of Government at National, State, and Local levels, a programme approach needs to be adopted, guided by common vision and strategy. This approach has the potential of enabling huge savings in costs through sharing of core and support infrastructure, enabling interoperability through standards, and of presenting a seamless view of Government to citizens.
NIELIT takes a holistic view of e-Governance initiatives across the country, integrating them into a collective vision, a shared cause. Around this idea, a massive countrywide infrastructure reaching down to the remotest of villages is evolving, and large-scale digitization of records is taking place to enable easy, reliable access over the internet. The ultimate objective is to bring public services closer home to citizens.

Over the years NIELIT was well known as DOEACC and it has established a benchmark in Education.

http://www.nielit.gov.in/bullet.jpg e- Learning

With the shift towards the knowledge society, the change of working conditions and the high-speed evolution of information and communication technologies, peoples' knowledge and skills need continuous up-dating. Learning, based on collaborative working, creativity, multidisciplinarity, adaptiveness, intercultural communication and problem solving, has taken on an important role in everyday life. The learning process is becoming pervasive, both for individuals and organisations, in formal education, in the professional context and as part of leisure activities. Learning should be accessible to every citizen, independent of age, education, social status and tailored to his/her individual needs.
